Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some of the most common questions that we get. However, if your question is not here or if the answer needs more explanation, please let us know. We are here to help you with all your screen printing needs.

How much does it cost to screen print an item?

The price of screen printing depends on a variety of factors including number of colors, style of garment and the location of the print. Here are few rules of thumb to help you gage potential cost:
  • The more garments you print, the lower the price
  • The more colors you want in a print, the higher the price
  • The more locations on a garment (such as the front and back of a shirt), the higher the price
  • As cotton items get darker (printing on a white versus a black sweatshirt), the higher the price

How fast can you print my items?

The turn around time on a typical job is around 10-12 days, depending on the size and complexity of the order. If we can finish sooner we will. If you need something done sooner Select Printing does offer rush options. The process of screen printing items takes several steps, each requiring precision and care. Here is an article that breaks down the different steps.

Can I bring in my own items to be printed on?

It depends on the items. We will only print on items that we can guarantee our work. If it is a material that is unknown or a material that we have not had success printing on, we will have an honest discussion with you before attempting to print. Results such as dye migration, cracking, washout and other problems are a function of combining certain materials at certain temperatures for a length of time. Screen printing, though it has been around for nearly 1,000 years, is still a detailed process and understanding your materials is critical to success. Here are some more details on materials, temperature and timing.

What type of artwork do I need to supply Select Printing for my job?

Keeping it simple, we need a true vector art file in the form of Adobe Illustrator to produce the best results. These types of files allow us to generate screen printing that is exactly the way you want it. Artwork is the foundation of great screen printing. Artwork typically falls in to 3 different categories: print ready, re-creation and original.

Print ready means that the artwork you send us requires no modifications. It is in a vector format, sized properly and has specific spot colors.

Re-creation means that the artwork is in some kind of digital form but will require us to modify it to get it in to a print ready format.

Original art means that we are starting with a basic idea or sketch but there is no actual art available to use. In this case, we start from scratch and produce print ready art. For more information on Select Printing's art and Graphic Guidelines, click here.
